Funding and Support

Funding and Support#

Eclipse SUMO is a project of the Eclipse Foundation and has a number of enthusiastic committers behind it, working for several companies contributing to the overall project.

The main source of funding for the maintenance and further development is through joint research projects.

Research projects#

If you have (or plan) a project with SUMO please consider involving one of the companies below to support your project and maybe also add new functionality which will be useful for the whole SUMO community. We are also open to preparing funding applications together with you. Just get in touch with one of the partners below or write to sumo-dev@eclipse.org (mailing list requires registration).

If you need a specific feature or a fix and do not want to wait for it to be picked up, you can commission it from one of the implementation partners below. What you pay for is development work, not a donation. The result is merged into SUMO and therefore available to everybody.

  1. Check the issue tracker whether your request already exists, otherwise open a new issue and describe it.
  2. Contact one of the partners below and refer to the issue.
  3. Agree on scope, price and schedule directly with the partner.

We tag issues which might especially benefit from funding with the label fundable in our issue tracker.

Your payment will go to the partner company, not the SUMO project or the Eclipse Foundation.

Implementation partners#

Below we list possible partners you can approach to work on a SUMO project together. If you feel you or your company should be listed below, send an email to sumo-dev@eclipse.org (mailing list requires registration).

German Aerospace Center (DLR)#

DLR is Germany's national aerospace and transport research center. Its Institute of Transportation Systems conducts world-class research on traffic modelling and intelligent transport systems. It started the SUMO development in 2001 and has been the leading contributor ever since. As a research organization the best way to involve DLR is through a research project, especially with funding by a German or European institution, or another eligible funding body. If you want to contact them, write to sumo@dlr.de.

Consultancy for engineers (co4e)#

The co4e GmbH is a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center (DLR). It is based in Berlin and provides technology consultancy services and specialized software tools for system engineers. It is the developer of SESAM which is a collaborative platform for building digital twins and mobility simulations in the cloud. They offer:

  • Training and workshops to gain SUMO proficiency
  • Consultancy and service for the successful application of SUMO in your projects
  • Development of SUMO features and adaptation of existing functionality
  • Implementation of projects based on SUMO

If you want to contact them, write to robert.hilbrich@co4e.com.
